Junior Gundog Training: Improver Course -

Our 6-week Junior Gundog: Improver Course is the fifth course level we offer.

This course is for dogs who have already developed the skills that we train on Junior Gundog Foundation Course.

At this level we focus heavily on the basic skills that are needed as part of gundog work in the field and provide your dog with a chance to have plenty of fun doing what he loves.

Videos Demonstrating Every Exercise

To accompany the training, you will receive access to the Online Junior Gundog Course within our Gundog Training Academy.

This contains over 30 video demonstrations taking you, step-by-step, through every single training exercise we cover in the classes. There are also detailed notes with every training exercise should you need more information to support you.

The online content will provide you with a clear structure to follow in your training sessions at home.

Which Skills Will My Dog Learn?

This course culminates in the final week with a Junior Gundog Fieldwork Test.

We will assess you and your dog versus specific criteria designed for their natural breed characteristics. There is a separate Fieldwork Test for Retrievers, Spaniels and HPR breeds*.

You will be assessed and scored in the following areas:

Heelwork: (off-lead) 20-30 metres*
Sit/stay: 1-2 minutes with owner at 20-30 metres*
Recall Whistle: 20-30 metres*
Stop Whistle: whilst walking at owner’s side
Marked Retrieves: from cover at 30-50 metres*
Memory Retrieves at 20-30 metres*
Delivery of Retrieve: to hand
Directional Control: Casting Left and Right
Hunting Pattern & Turn Whistle*

You are not in competition with other dogs. You and your dog just need to demonstrate the criteria to progress to the next level with either a Pass, Merit or Distinction based on your overall score.

On passing the Junior Gundog Fieldwork Test you will receive a certificate, exclusive gold colour-coded lanyard & rosette.
