Beginner Gundog – Foundation Course

Our Beginner Gundog – Foundation Course is our entry-level course for teenage and adult dogs and covers the first part of our Beginner Gundog programme.

All courses are held in small groups. We use outdoor settings to teach real-life skills in the same environment your dog will ultimately need to use them.

Our Beginner Gundog Foundation Courses run in all of the following locations:

Who Is This Course For?

Our Beginner Gundog – Foundation Course is our entry-level course for all gundog breeds over 4 months of age.

All dogs must be comfortable around other dogs. For everyone’s enjoyment and so that your dog is in the right emotional state to be trained, it’s important that dogs are calm and do not bark or whine continuously. It’s also important that handlers with larger dogs can safely restrain them without being pulled over, or letting-go of the lead.

If you think your dog may become frustrated, or over-excited in a group of other people and dogs, we recommend our Individual Training Programme instead. This will allow us to work in a quieter setting and help your dog learn some of the key life skills we normally cover in our Puppy Course, but tailored to suit an adult dog.

We Train You (To Train Your Dog)!

People often think that dog training is like dropping their dog off at the school gates, like the dog is the student. For sure, your dog will be learning new behaviours, but it’s actually you that will be doing all the dog training.

This makes you the student. This course will enable you to learn all about what motivates your dog and provide a great introduction to gundog training.

Over the 6-weeks, our experienced trainers will ensure you learn the best dog training techniques and how to use them at home between classes.

Beginner Gundog Foundation Course

Our gundog training differs from general dog training classes which are designed for all breeds of dog.

Owners of retriever, spaniel and pointer breeds will tell you that they need a little bit more, especially when they take their dogs out into the countryside. We provide training which is specifically designed for gundog breeds.

Gundog Training with Acer will teach you how to provide an outlet in your daily routine for your dog’s desires to chase and hunt for things. Without proper training, these instincts become a real problem for all untrained gundog owners. Over the 6-weeks of the course, you’ll learn not to be scared of these instincts, but instead how to harness them.

We only use modern, science-backed, ethical training methods based on rewards to motivate your dog. None of the traditional style gundog training which involves fear and punishment and promotes the use of force to make dogs comply.

Videos Demonstrating Every Exercise

To accompany the training, you will receive access to our Online Beginner Gundog Course within our Gundog Training Academy.

This contains over 30 video demonstrations taking you, step-by-step, through every single training exercise we cover in the classes. There are also detailed notes with every training exercise should you need more information to support you.

The online content will provide you with a clear structure to follow in your training sessions at home.
