Nonetheless, all gundogs are bred to hunt and retrieve, so we incorporate these activities into our training to harness all their energy.
Our online gundog training programmes follow our tried and tested Foundations to Field Framework in a clear, self paced structure.
We’ve included everything we cover in our in-person classes through bite sized demonstration videos, making it accessible to students around the world and ideal for those whose lives are too busy to attend a regular weekly class.
With ongoing coaching and personal support built in, you’re guided step by step from solid foundations through to dependable skills you can rely on in everyday life and in the field.
These are our entry level courses and no previous training experience is needed for your dog to get started.
This course is designed for gundog breed puppies once vaccinated and under 6 months. We develop lifeskills such as focus, calmness, recall, polite social skills, and early hunting and retrieving foundations in a structured outdoor environment to develop confident, well balanced young dogs.
This course is designed for gundog breeds over 4 months, developing practical skills such as walking nicely on the lead, steadiness, reliable recall, retrieving, and clear hunting patterns to channel natural drive into focused, responsive behaviour and lay the groundwork for the levels that follow.
The Acer Signature Programme is a personalised coaching programme for gundog owners who feel stuck or overwhelmed, providing clear direction, flexible sessions, and structured step by step guidance to turn confusion into calm, focused progress at a pace that fits real life.
Availability: Mon-Fri (limited access at weekends)
Our group training classes are limited to just 7 dogs, creating a calmer learning environment with plenty of individual coaching and less standing around waiting for your turn. Sessions run in Bourn on Saturdays and in Steeple Morden from Monday to Friday, with easy online booking available to reserve your place.

The Acer Foundations to Field Framework is a structured, step-by-step training pathway for all gundog breeds that takes you from those first sessions with your puppy right through to advanced gundog skills. Each stage builds logically on the last, with exercises sequenced in a logical order and layered in difficulty so your dog is continually progressing, stretched enough to improve and supported enough to succeed.
Developed by Mark Taylor, founder of Acer Gundog Training, and refined over more than 10 years working with over 10,000 gundogs from both pet and working homes, this is not a collection of random drills but a joined-up system that produces real behavioural change.
The Foundations to Field Framework works with your dog’s natural breed instincts rather than trying to suppress them, channelling all that drive into clear direction and purpose, whether your dog lives as a family pet or works in the field.
Our Bourn venue is set in beautiful countryside just outside Cambridge, on private land within a working farm.
We’re easily accessible from the M11 and A14 for clients travelling from Cambridge, St Neots and Huntingdon, as well as further afield from Essex and London.
Our Steeple Morden venue offers varied terrain for training, including short grass areas, meadowland, and woodland with a stream, providing ideal conditions for developing real-world skills.
Located in South Cambridgeshire near Royston, we’re easily reached from the A1 and A10, for clients travelling from Hertfordshire Bedfordshire and the surrounding area.
