Junior Gundog Training

Junior Gundog comprises two levels, each lasting 6 weeks:

•Foundation Course: provides an introduction to skills in the Junior Gundog syllabus

•Improver Course: builds on the skills from the Foundation Course, taking them to a higher level

Who Is This Course For?

This course is for dogs who have already developed the skills we train at Beginner level and have passed the Beginner Gundog Fieldwork Test.

If you haven’t trained with us before but think your dog can demonstrate all of these skills (in an environment like a training field and with other dogs present), please submit a registration form, and we’ll be in touch to discuss this further. Select ‘Something More Advanced’ option on the form.

Skills Covered On The Course

At this level, we start to focus heavily on the field skills needed for regular gundog work, providing your dog with plenty of fun doing what he loves.

This course covers the first half of the Junior Gundog syllabus and provides an introduction to the following skills, which are then progressed to a more advanced level in the Junior Improver course that follows:

Off-Lead Heelwork: around distractions
Steadiness: around distractions
Recall: from distractions
Stop Whistle
Marked Retrieves: at distance & in cover
Memory Retrieves
Delivery To Hand
Directional Control: casting left & right
Hunting Pattern: including turn & hunt whistle cues
