Gundog Training at Acer

Gundog Training at Acer is for owners of both pet and working gundog breeds living in Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire & Buckinghamshire.

We understand that you want to live happily with your gundog and enjoy him being part of the family. You want to go for walks together without feeling stressed, or worried about meeting other people when you're out. Wouldn't it be nice to have your dog walk nicely by your side, even with other dogs around? You certainly don't want to suffer the frustration of seeing your dog disappear and completely ignore you every time he's let off the lead.

We train you (to train your dog)

At Acer Gundog Training, we teach you to understand your dog's motivations. How you train your dog will then harness all that drive and energy and put it to good use to stimulate your dog's brain.

Like learning to drive a car or play a musical instrument, we will teach you all the pratcical skills you need to train your dog. Our experienced team of gundog trainers will also give you a structure to follow week by week and provide ongoing support along the way.

We only use ethical, science-backed gundog training techniques

Some of the traditional methods used by other gundog trainers are based on punishment and have now been shown to cause behavioural problems such as fear and aggression.

We can show you how to get the best out of your gundog using his natural instincts to hunt and retrieve. We use only the most up to date, scientifically proven, training techniques.

No shouting, no yanking on the lead and certainly no need to dominate your dog. Gundog training with Acer is all about setting you and your dog up to succeed. This way, rewards can be provided to reinforce the right behaviour and ensure it will be repeated again in the future.

In human terms - we do what we enjoy and find rewarding. Dogs are no different. For training to be effective, we simply have to determine what our dogs find rewarding and provide that as payment. Food is a universal reward for all animals, but gundogs also love activities which involve play, chase, hunting and retrieving. These rewards are all used as an integral part of our gundog training as an ethical means to motivate our dogs to offer desirable behaviours.

Having a happy and well-mannered dog is what is at the top of most people's wishlists when they first come to Acer for help with their gundog training.

These are the most common things people say when they first contact Acer:

  • He pulls on the lead all the time
  • He won’t come back when I call
  • He’s badly behaved around other dogs or people we meet
  • He completely ignores me and chases wildlife when off the lead
  • He jumps up at people which is really embarrassing
