Gundog Training at Acer
Gundog training at Acer is for owners of both pet and working gundog breeds living in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.
We understand that you want to live happily with your gundog and enjoy him being part of the family. You want to go for walks together without feeling stressed, or worried about meeting other people when you’re out. Wouldn’t it be nice to have your dog walk nicely by your side, even with other dogs around? You certainly don’t want to suffer the frustration of seeing your dog disappear and completely ignore you every time he’s let off.
We often find it’s as much about training owners as it is about training dogs
Acer Gundog Training helps gundog owners understand their dog’s motivations in order to channel all of that drive and energy and put it to good use to stimulate their dog’s brain.
When you understand what your dog is thinking, then you will know how to alter his behaviour.
We only use positive reinforcement dog training techniques
Some of the traditional methods used by other gundog trainers are based on punishment and have now been shown to cause behavioural problems such as fear and aggression.
We can show you how to get the best out of your gundog using his natural instincts to hunt and retrieve. We use only the most up to date, scientifically proven, training techniques.
No shouting, no yanking on the lead and certainly no need to dominate your dog. Gundog training with Acer is all about setting you and your dog up for success, so that rewards can be given to reinforce the right behaviour and ensure it will be repeated again in the future.
We have a gundog training option to suit your needs
Whether you have a new puppy, an exuberant teenager, or a mature adult gundog, we have training to suit you.
We offer Individual Training Sessions for those wanting to fast-track their training, away from the distraction of other dogs.
We also offer Puppy Classes and adult Gundog Training Classes to suit various levels of experience.
Having a happy and well mannered dog is what is at the top of most people’s wishlists when they first come to Acer for help with their gundog training.
These are the most common things people say when they first contact Acer:
- He pulls on the lead all the time
- He won’t come back when I call
- He’s badly behaved around other dogs or people we meet
- He completely ignores me and chases wildlife when off the lead
- He jumps up at people which is really embarrassing

We welcome both pet and working gundogs
If you want more than a pet dog with good manners, we can help you train your working gundog for shoot days in the beating line, for picking-up, or to be sat by your side on the peg.
If you are interested in competing, our training will prepare you for Working Tests or Field Trials.
